About Force Of Nature Productions
Force of Nature (FON) is an experimental music label based in the northeast United States. Initially focused on harsh noise, dark ambient, and industrial styles, FON has grown to focus on a range of experimental styles including IDM, Breakcore, and more.
History
Force of Nature began as an attempt to move beyond the typical shock value tactics used in experimental circles and instead to draw inspiration from the ultimate power in this world: nature's true destructive face.
Founded by DJ Peter Lee in 2001, the original releases centered around a collection of unknown bands who deserved proper releases. The first release, FON01 "Dark Transmission" was compiled from submissions to his weekly radio show A Dark and Tranquil Place and was followed by a series of releases reaching critical acclaim throughout the harsh industrial noise scene. Examples of this style on FON include FONR02: Gruntsplatter - The Passions of a Cripple, FONR01: Skin Crime, and FON04: G.R. by Deathpile.
The FON sound has increasingly also included experimental Dark Ambient artists featuring works by legendary artists such as The [law-rah] Collective who, in 2003 released the first in the FON "Natural Disaster Series" (where each release will describe a different natural disaster) titled "Vesuvius". Other examples of the FON Dark Ambient releases include FON02: Monstrare - Novum Ott, FON07: 15 Degrees Below Zero - Under A Morphine Sky, and FON13: Concrete Cookie and the Maggot Farmer - Mondegreen.
In recent years, the FON community has grown to incorporate IDM, Industrial, Ambient Live Electronics centering around releases such as synnack's FON12: v2, FON11: Freeze Etch - Vessels, and FON10: Perfection Plastic - Triomphe de la Matiere.
Forced Fest
From 2002 to 2007, FON hosted the longest running annual underground music festival combining Dark Ambient, Noise, Industrial, and IDM in the United States. (previous lineups...)
Submissions
Although the FON release schedule is full for the next year, we are always interested to hear new music. Demo submissions must follow the following guidelines:
- We prefer demos are submitted on CD.
- But, if submitting MP3s they must be encoded at 320k CBR. Even better, you can submit a zip/rar of your tracks in a lossless format such as FLAC/ALAC/WAV/AIF.
- All material submitted must be new and previously unreleased.
- All submissions that are simply links to social networking profiles will be deleted (NO MYSPACE LINKS!).
- Tell us about yourself. All submissions must be accompanied by a bio/presskit. Give us an idea of your experience, reviews, performance history, etc... (a link to your web site is not the same thing. If you are serious about releasing your music, MAKE A PROPER PRESSKIT. You can learn how to do this here, here, here, and here.)
- Please indicate if you are looking for a physical release only (i.e. CD or Vinyl) or if you would consider a Digital only release. Often our budget for physical format releases is already taken but we may consider a digital release.
