SENDAI Japan Series Completed

Posted: December 31 2011

Force of Nature is proud to announce the final two releases in the SENDAI Japan Series are released and available for purchase via Bandcamp.

fon_31-1SENDAI Japan Series 3 was curated by Bauke van der Wal and contains four artists working on the crossroads between drones, ambient, minimal noise and sound art. The compilation opens with a track by Cindytalk 'E Quindi Uscimmo A Riveder Le Stelle'; A drone of hope which title translates to 'And Then We Emerged And Saw The Stars Again'. Laurent Perrier - known as Zonk't, Pylône, Cape Fear, Heal and in the past as member of the French collective NOX - donates an immensely intrusive yet consoling track entitled 'Analog Radium'. The compilation continues with Philipp Munch and Babsi Teichner who, under the moniker Mandelbrot, present their minimal ambient noise piece 'Silence Afterwards'. Final artists on this release are the [law-rah] collective (M. Pieck and B. van der Wal) with a drone piece called Sendai v2.

fon_31-4SENDAI Japan Series 4 was curated by Dutch modular wizard Dennis Verschoor. All tracks were generated through use of modular synthesizers, a method that implies constant rebuilding a sound with active and/or passive parts. A constant rebuilding from scratch which makes it have a dual meaning in generating help for the rebuilding of the Sendai area.First artist on this compilation is Cebec with 'Slaking Encircle'. Hailing from the U.S. his name is probably one you haven't heard before, but listening to his donation you will get that consoling feeling that it will also not be the last time. The melancholic 'Destructive Force' that Boston-based Dave Jones aka Attacksustain created is a perfect introduction to the noisiest track on the compilation: Nordvargr with 'Olgoi-Khorkhoi'. And yes, sadly this is a mere derivate of the true sound of disaster :( Final track on the release is the before-mentioned Dennis Verschoor aka Mono_Poly. His 'Tears' will leave you saddened, but feeling good for supporting the cause.

All releases in this series are provided at 320k MP3, FLAC, or any format you can think of, DRM-free with all profits from the sale if this release will go directly to Give2Asia.

FON31-3 SENDAI Japan 2 Released

Posted: July 05 2011

fon_31-3
FoN is proud to announce the second release in a series of releases on Force of Nature designed to raise money to benefit the victims of the Earthquake/Tsunami that struck Japan on March 11th 2011.

If you think there is no longer a need, and Japan is back to normal, THINK AGAIN.

Compiled by Miguel de Sousa, founder & editor in chief of electronic music webzine Connexion Bizarre, with artwork by Gustavo Guerra, and mastered by Jeff Swearengin of Sleep Clinic, this compilation features work by a selection of international artists. The pieces presented were influenced or in some way relate to the catastrophe that hit Japan earlier this year, which continues to effect the daily lives of those who live there and which will have consequences for many generations to come.

Beginning with the disjointed lo-fi glitches & broken beats of Enzym (DE) and concluding with the hopeful moods of Utopia:Banished (DE), through the acid-influenced quirky electronics of Az-Rotator (ES) and the signature IDM of Tapage (NL) to the haunting sounds of Serial Industrie (FR) and Pandora's Black Book (US), this chilled and rather cinematic compilation aims to give something back to a country, a people and a culture who have so often proven inspirational and influential to many of us.

This part of the Sendai Compilation series comes on 320k DRM-free MP3, with further additions to the series coming soon.

FoN is proud to announce the first release in a series of releases on Force of Nature designed to raise money to benefit the victims of the Earthquake/Tsunami that struck Japan on March 11th 2011.

If you think there is no longer a need, and Japan is back to normal, THINK AGAIN.

Curated by by Kate Turgoose, a regular contributor to Connexion Bizarre, with artwork provided by Kostas Katsikas (better known as Subheim), and mastered by Dave Dando-Moore of Detritus, this compilation brings together a wide range of artists from across the world, all influenced in some way by the catastrophe that hit Japan earlier this year, and continues to effect the daily lives of those who live there.

With the lilting, glitchy, electronic sounds of Sleep Clinic (US), Temp0rary (UK) and Council Flats of Kingsbury (UK), dark IDM of Detritus (UK), dubstep of The Walton Hoax (BE) and Vocal Electronics from John Callaghan (UK), this release is a beautiful compilation that we hope will benefit Japan, in the way that Japan frequently benefits those who make electronic music; through Japan's ever evolving culture that inspires so many.

This part of the Sendai Compilation series comes on 320k drm-free MP3, with further additions to the series coming soon. Stay tuned to the Sendai Japan Series page for details of new releases. All profits from the sale if this release will go directly to Give2Asia.

FON27 Interpretations in Time now available

    fon_27
"Interpretations in Time" is the free debut release by The Carapace featuring a preview of the upcoming full-length, "Moments in Time". Though only featuring 3 tracks from the upcoming full-length, the release includes over an hour of "Interpretations" of these tracks by some of the most innovative and well-known friends of FoN, making this release in itself an epic full-length, unique experience.

The Carapace is the freeform electronic music project of Joshua Colella; the producer behind the industrial hardcore project scrap.edx. The project was created in central Connecticut on Joshua's 30th birthday as a means of expressing perceived reality and a vehicle to imprint human experiences through sound.

In addition to utilizing heavily processed and manipulated field recordings as the foundation for the project's sonic landscapes, The Carapace also draws from the learned production techniques of IDM, glitch techno and cinematic post-production without marginalizing listeners into particular genre mindsets. The music of The Carapace places emphasis both on refined, technically sound production and creativity, thus enticing listeners to engage The Carapace both with the mind and body.

Fans of bands like HECQ and Daniel Myer's "Architect" take note. If dark dub-step inspired IDM is your thing, "Intepretations in Time" builds off of your favorite sound while taking you in whole new directions.

A new and unique compilation release titled "The Exquisite Mix has been announced.

Conceived by Matt Fanale of Caustic, The Exquisite Mix is a release that takes inspiration from game whose origins are 100 years old and began in the Surrealist Art movement in Europe. From Wikipedia... Exquisite corpse (also known as exquisite cadaver or rotating corpse) is a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule (e.g. "The adjective noun adverb verb the adjective noun") or by being allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed.

Applied to The Exquisite Mix, each artist submission overlaps and blends together in the same order they were produced where each artist was inspired by the last 30 seconds of the previous artist's work.

The Exquisite Mix comes on 320k drm-free MP3 and features artwork by Mike Morton/Displacer and mastering by 0xf8 Studios.

    synnack.init.system released

    Posted: October 30 2010

The first DVD release on Force of Nature is now available.

synnack init.system is a video anthology exploring themes of creation, revelation, demise and catharsis. Set to tracks from synnack's "v2" release, init.system is split into 3 acts; each focused on a different phase of an unknown protagonist's journey. Adolescent trauma, abnormal curiosity with familiar objects, and pseudo-spiritual revelation are highlighted in Act I "init.being". Act I features videos for "Ants in the Water", "L3D", and "Nauvoo" and introduces the 3 main characters and the rising tensions between them. In Act II, "init.descent", these tensions escalate to a violent and destructive outcome in videos for "Her Room" and "Underneath Outside". The anthology concludes in Act III "init.restart" which is set to "Rize (5mg)" and provides a hallucinatory abstraction meant to represent a moment of twilight just after the protagonist's ultimate end.

The footage used in init.sytsem was shot in HD and edited in 2008-2009 by Jennifer McClain of 0xf8 Studios with final edits in early 2010. The video collaboration between McClain and synnack began in 2007 to create installation-like environments using Cycling 74's Max/MSP/Jitter to be used for the synnack live performances. This early work focuses on abstract narrative, an evolving cinematography that exposes and examines the boundary between eye-candy and film. Init.system leverages these techniques to combine classical mythological themes with chance methodologies in much the same way the synnack performances contain generated custom and narrative footage.

This DVD also includes a code for use on synnack.com where you can register as a synnack supporter to gain access to free music, often unreleased, discounts on merchandise, and more.

The new release by The Maggot Farmer is now available from Force Distro.

The Waiting room is The Maggot Farmer's solo follow up on FLAC to 2008's CD collaboration with Concrete Cookie, Mondegreen. The sound of the new work has been described as "more chill out than Mondegreen", "a musical movement that incorporates the re-sequencing of drones and urban atmospheres; from mass transit systems to broken rant", "music for a dead broadcast", "music for mute screens", and "the music of Los Angeles while sleeping". At only $4.99 USD for the highest quality digital audio by a true experimental legend, you're sure to find out for yourself.

Keeping things within the Mash Up Soundsystem camp, this FLAC release includes a PDF of cover artwork by Kinga Dorosz (a.k.a. Concrete Cookie) and artwork and design by Marco Pinsker.

The Maggot Farmer (a.k.a. Jism, The Dog, and former member of the acid techno group Alien race and its breaks oriented offshoot Electronic Bubble Frog) is a member of the Mash Up Soundsystem collective and has been producing sound collages since the early 1990s, as well as playing in chill out rooms at legendary London parties such as VFM (among many other hard techno-based club ambient rooms).

    FoN and Oil Spill Relief

    Posted: June 19 2010

I am considering giving 100% of revenue from all sales on forced distro for at least one month to charities benefiting south Louisiana people most effected by the BP situation.

I know there are many charities focused on environmental cleanup. Audubon Society being one. However I'd really like to focus the giving on directly helping families whose businesses and livelihoods are destroyed by the events there.

I found this one, for example. http://no-hunger.org/

I am also considering releasing a CD compilation called "Sonic Relief for the Gulf" and giving 100% of those profits to charity as well. So I have a big need to understand what the most appropriate LOCAL charities are that have the biggest impact on these families.

If anyone has any knowledge or thoughts on where I might look or what charities could provide the most help to these families please shoot them my way!

Of course, if you are also willing to submit an exclusive track to a compilation like this, hit me up. info at forceofnature.cc

Force of Nature Productions, or FON, was founded by DJ Peter Lee in 2001 and began as an independent label centered around a collection of unknown experimental/noise artists who he felt deserved proper releases. Since synnack joined Force of Nature in 2008, I have been intimately involved in transforming the label from a focused DIY-style hobby to a more professional, global, and modern collective of like-minded artists. FON has grown to include a comprehensive and diverse set of artists whose styles range from noise to dance-floor hard industrial, to dark ambient and IDM. We've shifted from only doing physical releases, to a mix of physical, digital, and even free downloads. We literally have thousands of customers from all across the globe for our new releases and the upcoming T-FAKTOR release is sure to surpass anything the label has done in the past.

However with that maturity comes a sacrifice. Managing the label and promoting the releases takes an increasing time commitment that is not easy to balance with a personal life and family commitments. As such Peter Lee has decided to focus his time on his growing family and the demanding job he works to support them and transfer sole ownership of FON to me.

Our written agreement is finalized, the inventory has been transfered so the site is now back up and ready for orders.

The official release date for the T-FAKTOR CD is March 1st 2010 so get your pre-orders in now and I should have them shipped before it's even released!

I wish Peter all the success in the world and he will still be a part of FON in the background, advising me as needed. We will also continue to host his podcast, A Dark and Tranquil Place.

"Wretch" is brought to you in partnership with Cipher Productions and represents a journey through the mind of Andrew Grant, aka The Vomit Arsonist. A decidedly personal and unnerving recording, "Wretch" was written during a period of mental instability that lasted nearly two years. The result is a release that bleeds raw emotion: loss, hatred, self-loathing, and reflection; starting at rock bottom with waves of dark ambiance and quietly spoken words, moving further into the depths of a tortured mind. The result is a gradual advance into forceful, vengeful power electronics.

    Posted: April 11 2009

I am pleased to finally announce the next major update to www.forceofnature.cc.

Visit the release page, select a CD release we have in stock, and click each track to listen to each entire track. The hope of course it that you would then visit Forced Distro and buy what you like.

Review of Mondegreen posted on Sound Proector

A new review of Mondegreen by Concrete Cookie and the Maggot Farmer is up on the Russian experimental music site, Sound Proector.

...the album perfectly keeps you in strain, all its tracks are listened without a pause and each next track is the development of the previous one. Long dark soundscapes are competently combined with industrial rumble and gritting, sometimes changing each other, sometimes joining together into paranoid sound veil... (read full review)

Pretty cool site. Check it out.

New FON artist - LAN Formatique

    Posted: September 01 2008

    fon_14
Force of Nature is pleased to announce a new artist on the line-up.

Ever evolving, LAN Formatique is an artist in a constant state of flux. From inauspicious beginnings in the cold world of IDM through the melodic electronica his 2006 debut album, "Goodnight Noises Everywhere", he has never allowed himself to stagnate. Fusing together such disparate elements as electronic glitches, orchestral arrangements and distorted guitar work, the music of LAN Formatique is one that comfortably straddles genres and remains wholly personal.

More information on LAN Formatique's upcoming FON release can be found in the releases section.

    FON13 - Mondegreen now available

    Posted: August 20 2008

    fon_13
Concrete Cookie and the Maggot Farmer's latest release, "Mondegreen" has been released and is available for purchase on the FON web shop.

Mondegreen is distinctly a more reflective direction for the duo, as a follow up to Mash Up Soundsystem's "A Great Escape from Lunacy", released on Hive Records in 2006.

The artwork on this disc, once again beautifully merges Inga Dorosz's photography of surreal landscapes, familiar made unfamiliar, with Marco Pinsker's eye for the serious and the comedic. It's also the perfect accompaniment to the content of Mondegreen where, in the opening seconds the door locks behind the listener as one embarks on a slow descent into madness, entering yet another world. Time slows down as one is enveloped by textures and swells of sound. "A year in the life." of sorts, field recordings layered with digital and analogue sounds that become progressively unhinged. Each successive listen, opens up new meaning as new structures emerge. Sit back, close your eyes and disassociate yourself from your immediate environment.

    FON12 - v2 now available

    Posted: May 01 2008

    fon_12
synnack's latest release, "v2" has been released and is available for purchase on the FON web shop.

v2 builds on synnack's prior releases by leveraging an increasing amount of custom software, field sampling techniques and live electronics to create an epic combination of ambient glitchy soundscapes and crunchy rhythmic mayhem. A special feature of the v2 release is that each CD package includes a card containing a unique "regcode" which can be used to register on synnack.com for access to additional songs unreleased tracks, videos, discounts on additional merchandise, and more.
